May–June and September–October: pleasant temperatures, fewer tourists. July–August is the hottest period with up to 35 °C and crowded beaches.

Ferries from the port of Piraeus (Athens): Santorini 5–8 hrs (fast ferry 5 hrs), Crete 7–9 hrs. Within the islands, by rental car or quad bike.

Moderate: the mainland and lesser-known islands are affordable. Santorini and Mykonos are expensive in summer (hotel 150–300 €). Food and wine affordable everywhere.
