The castle high above the capital is the official residence of the ruling princely family and the country's landmark. It can only be admired from the outside, but offers a magnificent view over the Rhine Valley into the Swiss and Austrian mountains.

The striking modern architecture of black basalt houses one of the region's most important art collections, with works from the Baroque period to the present — located right in the compact, easily walkable center of Vaduz.

The idyllic mountain village of Malbun is Liechtenstein's main hiking and ski area, surrounded by gentle Alpine peaks. It offers a quiet, family-friendly Alpine setting away from the large tourist crowds of neighboring countries.

With only about 160 square kilometers between Switzerland and Austria, Liechtenstein ranks among the smallest sovereign states on Earth — the entire country can comfortably be explored in a single day.

Liechtenstein has no airport of its own — access is via Zurich (about 1.5 hours) or St. Gallen by car, train and bus. Thanks to the good connection to the Swiss transport network, the country is easily reachable as a day trip.

German is Liechtenstein's official language, though everyday life is conducted in an Alemannic dialect similar to that of eastern Switzerland. English is also well understood in tourism and the museums.

The Swiss Franc (CHF) is the official currency — Liechtenstein is closely tied to Switzerland through a customs and currency union, which makes travel between the two countries especially straightforward.

Summer is excellent for hiking in the Alps around Malbun, while winter draws skiers to the same mountain village. Vaduz with its museums is a rewarding day trip year-round.
