Direct flights from Zurich to Toronto or Montreal are offered by Swiss and Air Canada, among others, with a flight time of about nine hours. Swiss nationals generally only need an electronic travel authorization (eTA), which must be applied for online before departure and is usually approved within minutes.

Canada has two official languages: English and French. While English dominates in most provinces, French is the main language mainly in Québec and parts of New Brunswick. Travelers can get by with English virtually everywhere in tourist regions.

The Canadian dollar (CAD) is the official currency. Credit and debit cards are accepted virtually everywhere, even for small amounts, so cash is mostly only needed for tips or small markets.

Canada sits in the upper-mid price range, comparable to Western Europe. Accommodations in major cities like Toronto or Vancouver as well as guided tours in the Rocky Mountains cost about as much as in Switzerland, while rural regions and road trips are often cheaper.
