Lake Bled with its island church and hilltop castle is one of Europe's most iconic natural sights — a pletna boat to the island and the Bled Castle panorama are unforgettable.

Postojna Cave is Europe's largest show cave at 24 km long — an electric train runs through the stalactite labyrinth with the famous olm salamander.

Slovenia's capital has a charming old town with a dragon-guarded castle, open-air cafés and a green cycling culture — honored as the "Green Capital of Europe."

Slovenia's short Adriatic coastline with the Venetian town of Piran — salt pans, seafood and medieval architecture by the sea along just 47 km of coastline.

Drive from Zurich via the Swiss highway and Austria to Ljubljana in about 5 hrs. — ideal for stopping along the way. Flying via Vienna or Munich is also possible.

Mid-priced: Ljubljana hotel €70–120, restaurant €12–20. Bled is touristy and somewhat pricier. Overall cheaper than Austria and Italy.

May–October for nature and hiking. June–August for Bled (swimming season). Winter for skiing at Krvavec — very close to Ljubljana.

5–7 days is enough for the highlights: Ljubljana (2 days), Bled (1 day), Postojna + Predjama (1 day), Piran (1 day). The country is compact and easy to travel.
