The world's tallest skyscraper at 828 meters offers a breathtaking view over Dubai's futuristic skyline from its observation deck. Around Dubai Mall, the choreographed water displays of the Dubai Fountain provide an evening spectacle in the heart of one of the world's most modern cities.

The magnificent Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the capital Abu Dhabi, with its white marble domes and the world's largest hand-knotted carpet, ranks among the most impressive sacred buildings in the Middle East. The Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Ferrari World theme park round out the city's cultural and entertainment offerings.

Just a short drive from Dubai, the desert stretches out with its golden dunes, where dune-bashing tours by 4x4, camel riding and overnight stays in Bedouin camps under the starry sky are offered. The tranquility of the desert landscape stands in fascinating contrast to the urban bustle of the big cities.

The glittering skyline of Dubai Marina, with its skyscrapers right on the artificial canal, invites yacht trips and waterfront promenade strolls. In contrast, the traditional gold and spice souks in historic Deira offer oriental flair and a glimpse into the Dubai of past times.

Direct flights from Zurich to Dubai are offered by Swiss and Emirates, among others, with a flight time of about six hours. Swiss nationals do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days.

The official language is Arabic, but due to the high proportion of international residents, English is omnipresent in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and used consistently in hotels, restaurants and on tours.

The UAE dirham (AED) is pegged to the US dollar and therefore very stable. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, from luxury hotels to souks, so cash is usually only needed for small purchases.

The UAE ranks among the more expensive destinations in the Gulf region, with luxury hotels and upscale restaurants at European to premium price levels, while public transport like the Dubai Metro and street food in older districts remain affordable.
