The Red Sea port city captivates with the historic old town of Al-Balad, whose coral-stone houses are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as a long corniche promenade. The Red Sea's coral reefs offer excellent diving and snorkeling in one of the most species-rich marine regions in the world.

As the birthplace of Islam, home to the holy sites of Mecca and Medina, Saudi Arabia plays a central religious role, though access to these cities remains reserved for Muslims. Accessible to all travelers, museums and cultural festivals across the country showcase the millennia-old history of the Arabian Peninsula.

The Saudi riyal (SAR) is pegged to the US dollar and therefore very stable. Credit cards are widely accepted in cities, though some cash is still recommended for smaller purchases and souks.

Saudi Arabia sits in the mid-to-upper price range of the Gulf region. International hotels in Riyadh and Jeddah reach European standards, while local restaurants and public transport remain comparatively affordable.
