Question 1

How do I get to Etosha National Park?

Accepted Answer

From Windhoek, the park's southern Anderson Gate can be reached by rental car in about four to five hours over well-developed roads. The nearest airport is in Ondangwa, from where several lodges offer a transfer.

Question 2

What is the Etosha salt pan?

Accepted Answer

The roughly 5,000-square-kilometer, mostly dry salt pan gives the park its name and shimmers silvery-white during the dry season, while after rare rainfall a shallow lake briefly forms, attracting thousands of flamingos.

Question 3

Why are the waterholes in Etosha National Park so important for wildlife watching?

Accepted Answer

Since natural rivers are absent from the region, practically all wildlife activity concentrates around the park's numerous natural and artificial waterholes, making them the most reliable spots for wildlife viewing from your vehicle during a safari.

Question 4

What animals can you see in Etosha National Park?

Accepted Answer

The park is home to one of Africa's largest concentrations of wildlife, including lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes and cheetahs, which gather at the waterholes especially during the dry season between May and October and are easy to observe.
