Discover Silhouette Island

The third-largest island in the Seychelles was largely spared from large-scale settlement due to its steep, mountainous terrain, which is why one of the most original rainforests in the entire archipelago has survived here to this day.

About 93 percent of the island is under nature protection and is home to numerous endemic plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world, making Silhouette Island an important center of biodiversity.

Unlike elsewhere in the Seychelles, wild, freely roaming populations of the Aldabra giant tortoise still live here in their natural habitat, giving naturalists rare insights into their original behavior.

The highest point on the island can be climbed on a demanding, multi-hour hike through dense rainforest, offering a spectacular view over the surrounding islands of the archipelago from the summit.

From Mahé, Silhouette Island is reached by boat in about 45 minutes or by helicopter in just a few minutes, since the island has no airport of its own.
