The reefs off Aqaba rank among the most popular diving and snorkeling destinations on the Red Sea thanks to their exceptional biodiversity and year-round warm water temperatures, with over 500 fish species and vibrant soft corals.

Built by the Mamluks and later Ottoman, the fort right on the waterfront was the site in 1917 of the famous capture by T. E. Lawrence and Arab forces during the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire.

The cargo ship Cedar Pride, deliberately sunk in 1985, rests at a depth of about 25 meters and has become an artificial reef full of soft corals and tropical fish, making it one of the most popular dive spots in the region.

As Jordan's only coastal city, Aqaba connects the country to the Red Sea, offering a waterfront promenade, seafood restaurants and a unique geographic position with simultaneous views of Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Direct flights to Aqaba (King Hussein International) run in season from several European cities. Alternatively, a roughly four-hour drive along the Desert Highway connects Aqaba with Amman.
