Discover Ushuaia

As the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia sits dramatically between the snow-capped foothills of the Andes and the Beagle Channel — a sign at the harbor officially marks "Fin del Mundo," the end of the world.

Dense forests, peat bogs and glacial lakes shape this national park, through which the historic "Train at the End of the World" also runs, once used to transport prisoners.

Boat tours on the channel pass sea lion colonies, cormorant colonies and the famous "Les Éclaireurs" lighthouse, often with views of Chile's snow-capped mountains on the opposite shore.

Most Antarctic expedition ships depart directly from the port of Ushuaia and cross the Drake Passage in about two days — the shortest sea route to the white continent in the world.

Direct flights connect Buenos Aires to Ushuaia in about 3.5 hours. The city has its own international airport at the southern tip of Argentina.

Spanish is the official language. English is understood throughout at hotels and on Antarctic expeditions.

November to March, the South American summer, is best, since most Antarctic cruises also depart during this period.
