Since the centuries-old iron ore mining beneath the town increasingly causes cracks in the ground, the entire town center has been gradually rebuilt several kilometers away for some years now, a globally unique town relocation project.

Between late May and mid-July, the sun does not set in Kiruna, allowing uninterrupted daylight around the clock and making hikes and activities under the midnight sun a special summer experience.

In the nearby village of Jukkasjärvi, a complete hotel made of ice and snow is rebuilt every winter, its artfully carved suites and famous ice bar redesigned annually by international artists.

Kiruna Airport is served from Stockholm several times a day with a flight time of about an hour and a half. Alternatively, a night train covers the route through Lapland in about 17 hours.
