Known as Luxembourg's Little Switzerland, the region around Echternach charms with bizarre sandstone formations, shaded gorges and moss-covered rocks along well-marked hiking trails that rank among the most beautiful in the entire country.

The artificial reservoir on the edge of town invites a relaxed afternoon with a lakeside promenade, pedal boat rental and an outdoor pool, and also serves as a popular starting point for cycling tours along the Sauer River.

Luxembourg's oldest town lies about 35 kilometers northeast of the capital and is reachable by bus in about 45 minutes or by car via the highway in about 30 minutes.
