Built in the 16th century, the mosque ranks among the oldest and architecturally most significant Islamic buildings in Kosovo and was elaborately restored after severe war damage, featuring an impressively painted dome and a valuable historic library.

Housed in a restored Ottoman mansion, the museum documents the region's traditional everyday life with historic costumes, furniture and tools, offering a vivid glimpse into Albanian culture of past centuries.

South of the city stretch the foothills of the Albanian Alps, with pristine mountain villages, hiking trails and traditional stone houses offering a calmer contrast to the city's lively bazaar and increasingly attracting hikers from abroad.

Pristina International Airport lies about 90 kilometers to the northeast and is reachable by bus or rental car in about 1.5 hours. Regular long-distance buses also connect Gjakova with Pristina, Prizren and Peja every half hour.
